Infusions are going well for Sarah. She will have her next one next Wednesday the 8th. I am way behind on updating the blog, though, and lots of fun stuff has happened, INCLUDING Sarah's 9th birthday! The good news is, in looking at her 3rd quarter report card, Sarah got straight A's! The other amazing thing is that she has not missed a day of school since November 21! That is more than FOUR months. That has never happened before. What proof that these infusions are helping! Here are a couple of random infusion pictures.
February 28 was Rare Disease Day. I had the privilege of speaking to the entire 6th grade at my son's middle school as well as Sarah's 3rd grade class. It was an awesome experience. The kids were so inquisitive and responsive. I heard from many parents that my presentation touched their children more than I ever expected. My goal with this is to educate people, even children. When some of these 3rd graders go on to be doctors, hopefully this talk will allow them to think of PID as a possible diagnosis for their patients when they are seeking answers for chronic illnesses.
The kids had 11 days off for spring break! Unfortunately Jason was out of town for work most of those, but the kids and I had a ball. (My spring break fell the same week as theirs.) One of our favorite places to go and kill time is Ikea. We did all sorts of silly things that day, but Sarah and Anna were especially having fun making funny faces in the mirrors.
We also had birthday parties that week. Zach's birthday was March 18, so we celebrated his with his friends (and you can see pics of that on his blog, which I will update soon!). We celebrated Sarah's over spring break as well, even though hers wasn't until the 27th. She had several friends over for ice cream sundaes and to watch a movie, and then some of the girls spent the night too.
March was also the start of spring soccer. Both Zach and Sarah had a game their first game of the season on the same day.
For fun, on Sarah's actual birthday, I took her to get some of her hair dyed purple. That was lots of fun, and she is really enjoying it. It should stay in about 6 weeks.
And, the day after her 9th birthday, Sarah ran her first 5k. This was especially neat because her Grandma also did her first 5k, and her BFF Isabella did it with her! Sarah had never done 3 miles on foot, and she did not run the whole thing, but she finished in about 45 minutes walking and running. She and Isabella got bit by the running bug, so we are all signed up for one this upcoming Saturday as well. This one was called the Diva Dash, and we got neat medals at the end.
Sarah and Isabella before the race. It was an early and very chilly morning
This is Sarah crossing the finish line. She is the one in the green tutu/skirt.
And finally, this is me, Sarah, my Mom and my sister after the race
