11-26-14 Sarah's 28th Infusion, 12-13-14 Sarah's 29th Infusion & 12-27-14 Sarah's 30th Infusion and Illnesses

Sarah has been fighting an infection that she is having a hard time getting rid of.  We did 3 weeks of antibiotics and it still is hanging on and it just hung on.  The good news is there was no fever and her lungs stayed clear.  She did miss 4 days of school in November, but none since we started the antibiotic (which got rid of her fever).

We made it through the rest of the semester.  Sunday December 21, Sarah sang in the children's choir in church.  At 1am on Monday morning, Sarah came in saying she was running a fever and didn't feel good at all.   She did have a fever, and laid on the couch all day drinking lots of fluids and keeping up on Tylenol and motrin.  I called the pediatrician because I suspected the flu.  They told me I should wait until the next day to be sure she tested positive.

The next morning she woke up and her fever was lower and she felt a bit better, so then I was not so sure it is the flu.  By late morning, I was back to thinking it was the flu and we ended up in urgent care.  She did test positive for Influenza A.  We started her on Tamiflu and she felt better the next day.  Her fever took a few days for the fever to completely go away.  She also had some pretty severe leg pain for a couple of days.  It was difficult for her to walk or even put her legs down to the ground flat.  This had happened before when she had the flu and she ended up hospitalized for several days while they tried to bring her creatinine kinase back down.  We just kept pumping her full of fluids, and eventually she was completely healed.

Here is a pic of Sarah at the urgent care waiting on flu results.

It made for a quiet Christmas.  My Mom, sister, brother-in-law and nephew were all supposed to come over Christmas Day, but due to Sarah's illness (and the fact that it ran through two of our three other children as well), we had a quiet day at home.  We were supposed to go to Iowa the weekend after Christmas, but with the illness, we had to cancel that as well.

Here are a couple of pictures.  We didn't take many, but did get some video.

The first one is all of the kids with Santa this year.  My oldest who turned 14 December 17 usually grumbles about it.  I tell him that it is one of the times of year that I invoke my maternal rights :)

This was Christmas Eve.  Sarah was feeling somewhat better, Zach was down for the count, and Anna wasn't sick yet.

The infusions are going really well.  On 11-26, due to the fact Sarah had a couple of illnesses, we upped her dose of Hizentra.  Instead of getting 12 grams in 60mL of fluid, she is now getting 14 grams in 70mL of fluid.

This picture is from infusions on the day before Thanksgiving.

Sarah's next infusion will be tomorrow or Saturday depending on when we get her meds.
